2nd Day~

03/03/12
Hours spent: 10
Total hours: 12

The day started off with Mr Otis picking me up at 10:00am to go to the 32nd Annual Black Cuisine. The Black Cuisine was an all-day outdoor street fair with three stages of jazz, blues and gospel. There were tons of vendors selling soul food like, BBQ chicken, ribs, jambalaya and more. Me and Mr. Otis' job were to capture the whole festival with our cameras. I was taking pictures while my mentor was video taping the event. This was my chance to put in use the things he had taught me the day before. Surprisingly, some of the pictures I took were very good. There was a lot of trial and error so I went through a lot of memory cards taking pictures all day. It was a very good experience and it was also a lot of fun. The staff members even gave us food for free! The fair lasted til 8:00pm, needless to say me and my mentor were exhausted. This was a very rewarding opportunity because other than getting free food , I had a first hand experience of what a professional photographer's job is like.

1st Day~

03/02/12
Hours spent: 2
Total hours: 2

I met up with my photography mentor today at Orange Park right after school. My mentor, Otis Bess, was previously a professional photographer but is now a cinematographer. He is a master in film photography and an expert in digital photography and cinematography. We discussed the fundamentals of photography and the difference between film and digital shooting. He explained to me that photography was more than just taking snapshots but is drawing with light. He also gave me some insights on how to create a meaningful images instead of just taking a point and shoot pictures at people posing for the camera. After he explained the basics we then discussed our plans for the next day since he was going to an event down at San Francisco called "The Black Cuisine"
